Once we are aware of our motivational pursuits and have learned ways to find out how to achieve them, the next step is to set a big hairy audacious goal that will motivate and inspire us.
People who lack goals and objectives in life are filled with doubt and monotony. They also have a hard time applying themselves to a worthy goal. They would rather avoid what they are meant to do in life because they are afraid to commit to a life-long goal---so, they are static, cliff dive, or have trouble coping. For example, the beloved Elvis Presley died of bone cancer but everyone focuses on his love of life and some feel that he died because of partying too much. Before we judge someone, we must find out what really happened! The same thing with Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson! Marilyn, in 1926, was a girl that was born in the charity ward at the Los Angeles County Hospital and later became one of the most celebrated and enduring icons of all time. Yet, Elton John said that she lived her life like a candle in the wind? Michael, as we know him as the King of Pop, has been surrounded by so much controversy. These three people are examples of great Masters of Self-Motivation!

However, those who are able to master self-motivation can see their goals unfold for them. They look at their career as a calling and they live their dream each- and every-day. They created a Yellow-Brick-Road to personal success. Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz or the new in vogue version "Oz The Great and Powerful," when reaching her destination she realized that she had all the motivation she needed inside herself all along. Their journey is filled with fun and triumph as they overcome obstacles and keep pressing on to the land of OZ! People need to realize that Oz never gave nothing to the TIN MAN that he didn't already have!

Peak performers in the Olympics use visualization to psyche themselves up to win a competition. They consciously develop the necessary fortitude to motivate themselves for the challenges in their next competition. The same technique is effective in designing a life to enhance personal excellence.

Daniel Goleman talks about people losing what he called the Human Moment! People need to turn off your blackberry, close your laptop, silence your phone, end your daydream and pay attention to the person that they are speaking with. Many people are unable to see through the mundane parts of their work and build working relationships with the people around them. Thus they are not in-tune with reality and absorbed by technology. These are the people that have not quit caring about others but they may as well have, because mentally and emotionally, they are not connecting to the people in front of them in lieu of the people on the other side of the text. Consequently,  they are so fixated on the new technology that they resist change---not to mention the people behind the technology.
When people master self-motivation they learn to take the good with the bad and persist on with their work. They use visualization and as the late Steven Covey says, they keep the end in mind.

Strongly, masters of motivation adapt to change and thrive on challenge. They feel good about going into the new.  They have a positive attitude and put in the necessary effort and take risks. Most importantly, people that master self-motivation keep- on –keeping on even when they face unintentional obstacles.

Tips for Mastering Self-Motivation
  • Recognize that you are in control of your life. Wayne Dyer states that if you can control something then do not worry about it, and, if you cannot control something, then do not worry about it because you cannot control it.
  • Develop a positive self-talk such as “I can do this,” and “I have everything I need to succeed.”
  • Work to achieve your love of your work and play. Strive to be where ever you are and make time for the human moments while they last.
